The White Solstice

THE WHITE SOLSTICE WEEKEND CELEBRATION

Welcome, and thank you for joining me for this very special Summer Solstice weekend celebration. The summer solstice — the longest day of the year — has long been a time to gather, reflect, celebrate light, and embrace the beauty of the season ahead. There feels like no better setting to mark the occasion than here on the shores of the LaHave, surrounded by nature, community, friendship, and the people who have helped shape this journey.

This weekend is not only a celebration of the season, but also a celebration of connection, gratitude, and shared memories. It is an opportunity to pause and appreciate the people, experiences, and moments that bring meaning to our lives — while creating a few new memories together along the way. Whether you have travelled from near or far, your presence here means more than words can express.

The Lighthouse has always been about more than accommodations; it has been about creating a place where people feel welcomed, relaxed, inspired, and at home. My hope is that throughout this Solstice gathering, you experience a little of the magic that first drew me to Nova Scotia — the warmth of its people, the beauty of its coastline, and the simple joy that comes from slowing down and celebrating life together.

To my family and close friends, welcome to my home! And thank you for being here to celebrate such a meaningful milestone in my life. 2026 marks my 10th season as owner and manager of the Lighthouse Motel & Cottages on Nova Scotia’s beautiful rugged South Shore — a journey that has been as personal as it has been professional. At the same time, this weekend also marks what would have been my late father Marcel’s 93rd birthday, falling fittingly on the Summer Solstice weekend that I have chosen to call “The White Solstice.” It feels only natural to bring together the people who have shaped, supported and inspired me throughout this extraordinary chapter of my life.

Over the past nine years, I have had the privilege of welcoming guests from around the world who come here to experience the beauty that surrounds us and the special place that my team and I have worked so passionately to create. Yet, as often happens in life, when we are immersed in something every day, it becomes easy to overlook what is right in front of us and take it for granted. This weekend is a reminder for me to pause, reflect, and truly appreciate not only this place, but also the incredible people who have helped shape the journey behind it.

Beyond the celebration itself, I hope this weekend serves as a time free from fuss and formalities—a chance for us to slow down, reconnect with one another, unwind, and simply enjoy being together. While many of you know each other well, others may be meeting for the very first time, which is part of what makes this gathering so special. I encourage you to open your doors, both literally and figuratively, and take the opportunity to visit one another’s spaces. Each room has its own unique personality and charm, much like the wonderful people staying in them.
