My younger brother Daniel, the youngest of the family and six years my junior, arrived just in time to take away my title as “the baby of the family.” I still remember the excitement when I learned Mom was pregnant with Daniel, though it took me years to fully appreciate how much that changed my world and my place within it. Unlike me, who often sought out the spotlight, Daniel has always carried himself with a far quieter and more understated presence. It’s a quality that has defined him throughout his life and one that has only deepened with time.

With twenty years separating him from our eldest sister Lise, Daniel experienced a very different upbringing than the rest of us. He grew up with parents who were older, wiser, and perhaps gentler in many ways, and that influence is reflected in his calm, thoughtful, and cautious nature. Beneath that calm exterior, is a slight nervous energy not unlike the one our father had in his later years — a quiet sensitivity and carefulness that has always been part of who Daniel is. Yet underneath it all is someone deeply dependable and grounded. Daniel has been a steadfast and present husband and father, always putting his family first. Professionally, he has also brought balance and stability to his business partnership with our brother Maurice, complementing Maurice’s drive with his own measured and steady approach. Daniel may never seek the spotlight, but his strength, loyalty, and consistency have always spoken volumes.
