My eldest sister Nicole, second oldest in our family yet somehow always carrying herself as the true eldest, has long been the matriarch of the Daoust clan. Being thirteen years older than me, Nicole — along with my two other sisters — played an enormous role in shaping my life. As a young boy, she stepped in as far more than just an older sister; in many ways, she became a guiding and nurturing presence who helped raise me with endless love, care, and protection. Spoiled would almost be an understatement. She took me under her wing in a way only Nicole could, with a devotion and attentiveness that never wavered.
Through good times and difficult ones, Nicole has always been there — not only for me, but for every one of her siblings, whether we asked for it or not. She simply cannot help herself; caring for the people she loves is at the very core of who she is. Unfailing, dedicated, loyal, and fiercely loving, she has always been the steady heartbeat of our family. Nicole is the one who holds everyone together, the person we instinctively turn to, and the pulse that keeps the Daoust family connected through every season of life.
Roger has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As my sister’s high school sweetheart, and now lifelong partner, he became much more than a brother-in-law — he has always felt like a big brother to me. Growing up close to both our families, Roger was a steady, familiar, and grounding presence throughout so many chapters of our lives. His quiet strength, loyalty, and unwavering support have been a constant not only for my sister, but for our entire family. Over the past four decades, Roger has also become the Daoust family historian & librarian — carefully preserving photographs, stories, milestones, and memories that might otherwise have been lost with time. Thanks to his dedication and care, countless moments from our family’s history continue to live on, allowing all of us to revisit and cherish the people, places, and memories that shaped us.
