Michel Desjardins, a contemporary of my sisters Lise and Nicole, played a quietly pivotal role in my life during a formative and vulnerable time in my early twenties. At a time when being openly gay still carried significant stigma and uncertainty, Michel represented something I deeply needed — a safe harbour. In a world that often felt foreign and overwhelming, he offered acceptance, understanding, and a sense of ease that allowed me to begin finding my footing and my place within myself.

Beyond that early support, Michel generously opened up his world to me, including his circle of friends (including our beloved departed John Bucknam) who would go on to have a lasting influence on both my personal growth and professional outlook. Through him, I was exposed to a broader perspective and a level of accomplishment and confidence that helped shape who I would become. Much like the influence of my sisters during other key moments of my life, Michel stepped in at a crucial time, offering guidance not through instruction, but through presence, example, and inclusion.
