ADVENTUROUS, OFF-BEAT & INDEPENDENT

LUC DAOUST

Of all my nephews and nieces, Luc has always been the one who marches to the beat of his own drum. From an early age, he showed a fiercely independent spirit and a quiet confidence in doing things his own way. There has always been something uniquely “Luc” about him — a quality that made him stand out in the very best sense.

The family story goes that, in our younger years, Luc and I would essentially swap homes during the summer months. As a teenager, I would spend my summers in Toronto with his mom Lise, while Luc would head north to stay with Mom and Dad. There, he experienced a completely different kind of freedom from what city life could offer — long days outdoors, time at the cottage, fishing with Pépère, and being surrounded by cousins and family. He also developed a love for baking and healthy eating, something clearly influenced by Mom. Between the gentle guidance of Memère and the outdoorsmanship of Pépère, those summers helped shape the person Luc became. Their influence continues to live on in him today — in his values, his independence, and the strong sense of self he has always carried with him.
